Teaching Materials

Teaching materials turn the framework into lessons, handouts, exercises, and discussion prompts.

Classroom Use

The framework can be taught in philosophy, critical thinking, statistics, media literacy, science communication, and civic education. Its advantage is that it connects abstract epistemology to ordinary decisions.

A short lesson can introduce Objective Evidence (E0), Perceived Evidence (EP), Assigned Credence (CA), and Deep Rationality (SD) with one everyday example. A longer unit can move from glossary terms to model reading, then to case studies, then to student-built scenarios.

Lesson Sequence

A natural sequence begins with calibration: students practice stating confidence in percentages and explaining what would change their minds. It then introduces evidence quality, likelihoods, priors, and updating.

The middle lessons use case studies. Students estimate Objective Evidence (E0), Perceived Evidence (EP), Assigned Credence (CA), and Deep Rationality (SD), then compare whether disagreement comes from different evidence, different interpretation, different confidence assignment, or different incentives.

The final lessons ask students to build their own scenarios and write a short diagnostic reflection: where was the gap, why did it appear, and what repair would be epistemically responsible?

Reusable Materials

Useful materials include a one-page model guide, scenario worksheets, calibration exercises, debate prompts, case-study packets, slide diagrams, reading questions, and assignments where students estimate Objective Evidence (E0), Perceived Evidence (EP), Assigned Credence (CA), and Deep Rationality (SD).

The download library already provides a starter model guide, scenario worksheet, and classroom exercise packet. These should remain editable so teachers can adapt the framework to philosophy, writing, statistics, civic reasoning, or media-literacy courses.

Pedagogical Aim

The aim is not to make students perform certainty. It is to help them become more honest, precise, and updateable about uncertainty.
