Honest Novice
The honest novice lacks strong tools but assigns credence according to their perceived evidence.
Low Skill, High Good Faith
The honest novice has limited Deep Rationality but relatively strong Core Rationality. They may not know the statistics, may miss comparison classes, or may struggle with noisy evidence. But they do not knowingly force belief away from what they perceive.
Why This Case Deserves Charity
The honest novice reminds us that false belief is not always bad faith. A person may be wrong because the task is hard, the evidence is confusing, or their tools are underdeveloped. The right repair is often education and support, not accusation.
What It Looks Like
In the model, Perceived Evidence (EP) may diverge from Objective Evidence (E0) because the agent perception is imperfect. But Assigned Credence (CA) remains close to Perceived Evidence (EP). The agent believes what they honestly take the evidence to show.
