Assigned Credence (CA)
Assigned Credence is the final confidence level an agent actually adopts.
The Belief Anchor
Assigned Credence (CA) is where the agent finally anchors belief. It is the confidence they live with, argue from, and act upon. In a well-aligned state, Assigned Credence (CA) tracks Perceived Evidence (EP) closely.
Why CA Drifts
CA can drift from EP when desire, fear, identity, loyalty, trauma, incentives, or public commitment pull confidence away from what the agent takes the evidence to show. This is the domain of Core Rationality.
CA Is the Site of Integrity
The model treats CA as diagnostically important because it reveals whether the agent honors their own perception. A person cannot always control E0, and may only partly control EP, but the adoption of credence is where epistemic integrity becomes visible.
Where Belief Becomes Commitment
Assigned Credence (CA) is not merely a private feeling. It is the confidence a person reasons from, speaks from, votes from, teaches from, or acts from. Because it guides behavior, it carries a kind of epistemic responsibility.
The key diagnostic question is whether CA is answerable to EP. If a person takes the evidence to support 0.55 but performs 0.95 in public, the problem is no longer just evidence interpretation. The confidence has become a commitment serving something beyond evidence.
