How to Separate Core from Deep Failure
Separating Core from Deep failure means diagnosing whether the main problem is perception, skill, or belief integrity.
Ask Where the First Gap Opens
If the agent does not perceive the evidence accurately, begin with Deep Rationality. If the agent perceives the evidence but assigns a different credence, begin with Core Rationality.
Use the Repair Test
Ask what would fix the problem. If better data, base rates, feedback, or statistical tools would help, the failure is probably Deep. If the agent already has enough information but cannot bear the implication, the failure is Core.
Expect Mixed Cases
Many real cases involve both. A person may consume distorted information and also resist correction. The point is not to force purity, but to avoid using one diagnosis for every problem.
